IFTH – Institut Français du Textile et de l’Habillement

IFTH (Institut Français du Textile et de l’Habillement) is one of the main research centre in Europe and the official Certification Centre for Textile and Clothing in France. IFTH’s main mission for the last 50 years has been to develop new technologies in the textile and clothing industry and to share these technologies with all textile and apparel manufacturers in order to improve their productivity, competitiveness and profitability. IFTH, with its 150 co-workers, brings expertise in Research and Development through many innovative projects, in tests and certification of textile products and also in training:

(i) Research and Innovation, involving products (functional materials and composites) and processes (melt spinning, solvent nanospinning, knitting, weaving, braiding, nonwoven, plasma treatments, supercritical CO2 technology, micro-encapsulation, sol-gel chemistry, chemical grafting process, advanced formulations, metallisation),

(ii) Testing, standardization and certification (offering over 500 textile standards and tests) : Examples are microbiological tests, fire tests, comfort tests, UV tests, …..Sensory Characterization of material by using the methods of the sensorial analysis

(iii) Technical, standardization and market surveys, (iv) General and specific training for industrials

To facilitate the transfer to Industry, IFTH has different semi-industrial engineering platforms for pilot trials, to validate some concepts and to elaborate prototypes: Nonwoven engineering, knitting fabric Engineering, Finishing Engineering, Composite Material Engineering, Functional yarn platform and Eco-efficient surface functionalization Engineering.
